Class description
In the course, we learn the forging techniques necessary for knife forging.
The course is aimed at beginners. On the first day, we forge a functional knife from a piece of mild steel in order to practice basic forging techniques and sharpening the blade on a belt sander. On the 2nd day of the course, the 2nd knife is forged from spring steel or tool steel according to your designs. Then we grind and harden the blades. As a rule, each participant goes home with 2 finished blades. Due to time constraints, making wooden handles is not part of the course.
For kitchen knife projects, we offer a small selection of finished handles from Dictum.
However, you can also implement handles in the “open workshop” - but this would also be the right starting point for a knife or new knife project.
The courses always take place on weekends, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a half-hour lunch break.
Costs: 295€ incl.
Material costs, leather aprons and safety glasses are provided, gloves can be purchased on site.

Schmiede im Hof
Born in Neustrelitz in 1977, I came to Hanover as a result of the search for a training place. In 1999, I was seized by metal fever, creating sculptures out of scrap metal. In 2004 I discovered the fascination of forging and have been passionately sharing it with my guests ever since.
