Class description
Have you always wanted to learn how to crochet or knit, but that hasn't been possible on your own? Youtube helps, but would you like to have someone by your side right away if you have any questions or problems with something?
Then this is the right course for you!
We have been able to hire a top-class lecturer for you: our Rita!
She is an absolute expert in knitting & crocheting. Many still know her from her handicraft shop “Wollstübchen”, which she successfully managed for 18 years.
The “Crochet & Knitting Beginners” course is divided into two areas: theory and practice.
Theoretical part:
- Get to know technical terms and their abbreviations
- Read crochet & knitting script
- Stitch sample (and why is it important?)
- Needle to thread
- Run length to grams
- Needle types in knitting (circular knitting needle, jacket needle, needle game, CrasyTrio, compound needles.
- Material or special features of needles: metal, ergonomic lace, unicorn, bamboo, precious wood)
- Little helpers that are worth having
Practical crochet part:
- Form a chain of stitches
- fixed meshes
- half sticks
- whole sticks
- double sticks
Practical knitting part:
- Hit stitches
- Edge stitches
- Knit right stitches
- Knit left stitches
- Chain off meshes
To get started, wool that is smooth and therefore easy to work with is a must. You can then easily see the stitches and thus more easily see which type of stitch is now “on”.
To ensure that everyone has the same requirements, wool (Merino 120) is included in the price of the course. You will also receive a crochet or circular knitting needle.
For your first knitting exercises, the teacher will lend you her private needles so that she can give you the right needle for you at the end of the course. There are so many different needle sizes and types of needles. By borrowing, we can find the perfect needle for you.
With these basics, you can get started and make your first scarf or headband at home even after the course.
Choose a Merino 120 color and get a needle to test. And off you go and find out whether you want to knit loosely, normally or harder.
And don't worry: all three variants are correct. The right needle then ensures that your knitted piece does not fall apart due to holes or become hard as a board.
The course includes the following material:
- 1 ball (50g) of Merino 120 in a color of your choice (no color)
- When crocheting, a crochet hook and when knitting, an 80cm long metal circular knitting needle in the thickness that fits you and the wool
- Handout (comes a bit later via WhatsApp or email)
There is no material to bring along. Since you knit in a relaxed atmosphere, you are welcome to bring something to snack on and a drink (only lockable bottles please, open drinks are not allowed in the course room.
How does this activity work?
In the theoretical part, technical terms and their abbreviations are explained, crochet & knitting fonts are understood, stitch sample (and why is it important?) explains, explains the relationship between needle and yarn, relates run length and number of grams, looked at needle types and showed helpers that are worth having.
In the practical part, it's time to get on with the needles and practice!
From stitch tips to right and left stitches to chaining, everything is tested in the knitting sector.
The crocheting participants learn about chain stitches and a chain of stitches, how to make firm stitches and also practice half, whole and double sticks.
Who should definitely take part?
This course is perfect for beginners and anyone who wants to go “back-to-the-basics.” This means that even slightly advanced craft fans are welcome participants.
