Class description

The Schnoor is Bremen's oldest, smallest and somewhat enchanted quarter. You can stroll comfortably in its narrow streets, between tiny, leaning houses. Behind the facades are stories from everyday life in Bremen and from past centuries. With small shops full of curiosities and rustic cafés and restaurants, the Schnoor district invites you to relax. Go on a journey back in time and be amazed at Bremen's narrowest alley, curious figures, the smallest house in town and much more.

Walking through the Schnoor quarter, you will get to know old Bremen. The first evidence on this site shows that a Franciscan monastery was built in the 13th century. Later, ropemakers and fishermen made their living here for many generations. The Schnoor is full of stories.

Explore the so-called Katzengang, Bremen's narrowest alley with a width of only approx. 50 cm. You will also find out who once lived and worked here in the district and why the Schnoor residents had to pay a toilet fee as early as the Middle Ages. Also greet Heini Holtenbeen (a memorial), a popular, somewhat quirky Bremen original whose sayings are still being told.

Today, the Schnoor district is a popular tourist attraction. Here you can find curious and handmade items, jewelry, art and souvenirs in tiny shops with low ceilings. In the Christmas house, you will not only find festive decorations, but also a remnant of the medieval city wall. Look forward to exciting stories and secrets.
