About this class
Dive into the art of sculpture at our sculpture workshop in Berlin!
An introduction to manual and sculptural work is provided, how to use the tools is explained, and the special features of the alabaster material are explained. It is about letting go, getting involved with the stone, with the aim of creating a three-dimensional object; a very personal work of art.
What you’ll do in the class
First, the participants choose an alabaster rough stone that laughs at her/him. I offer stones in various sizes and colors to choose from. I then explain what to look for when working, explain the procedure and how to use the tools. Then it is primarily a matter of everyone starting to “rasp” in order to understand how the stone behaves and which tool suits them best. My workshops and courses are designed so that participants follow their intuition and follow forms that arise during the work process. These can be abstract and simply feel beautiful, or someone discovers, for example, a face, a nose, or an animal in alabaster and works this out. I am available to provide advice and assistance.
Once the mold is finished, alabaster can be sanded absolutely smooth using so-called diamond pads and then oiled; only then does it show its true color and is, depending on the composition, translucent; a surprise every time!
Work is carried out in a small group with max. 6 participants.
Who is the class suitable for?
The workshop is aimed at anyone who is interested in learning about alabaster as a material, gaining or deepening experience in working with natural stone. And to all those who want an exceptional experience in a unique location.
