About this class
Treat yourself to our longest series of courses with 4 dates, so we have enough time to dive a bit deeper into the craft of turning the disc after the first attempts.
Experience has shown that a unit to shoot (as in the 1.2 & 3-day formats) is actually too little and often overwhelming. Turning the wheel is more difficult than it looks and with the 2nd turning unit of this course, you have the opportunity to deepen what you have learned and try out other forms. That is highly recommended :-)
It is also nice when we get to know each other a bit better over a period of 6 weeks in a relaxed atmosphere.
In this course, you will go through all parts of the process up to glazing the finished pieces and in this way get a comprehensive insight into technology and processes.
In addition to the course, if you want, you can use the flexible hours of the open workshop to practice even more independently.
Please note that the courses are taught in German. Although we all speak English and other languages very well, we are only able to translate partially due to lack of time, but a lot is also achieved by watching.
You can request group bookings in English, Spanish and Dutch.
What you’ll do in the class
Day 1/3H: Introduction to basic processes and comprehensive explanations of centering the clay and making simple vessels on the potter's wheel
Day 2/3H: further practice with assistance and demonstration of form variants
Day 3/3.5H: We process and refine the hard leather/dimensionally stable pieces on the potter's wheel. This step is called “turning it off.” Foot rings and personal elements can be worked out.
-Expect around 7 finished pieces, although the number depends entirely on you. Maybe you won't be able to complete all the pieces on day 3, then you could still do this in the open workshop for 10€/h or 9€ with a 10H card.
Day 4/3H: After 14 days of drying and after the pieces have been burned for the first time, we will glaze them. You can choose from a selection of over 80 glazes for dipping and brushing. No costs are spared at this point so that you get a good insight into the various techniques and can really design your works according to your taste.
Who is the class suitable for?
The course is suitable for absolute beginners with no previous experience.
However, since this course also gives us time to explain more complex forms, the course is also suitable for people who have already had some experience with the pottery wheel.
