About this class
In the one-day introductory course on the potter's wheel, all steps are taught to create simple vessels. This course is good for you if you want to try out working on the potter's wheel.
It's a special experience that's a lot of fun, but at first it's harder than it looks.
The focus of this introductory course is on the process. First of all, it's about the experience and not the result; masterpieces don't have to be created. The fewer expectations you have, the more you'll probably enjoy the course.
The result is around 3 smaller bowls, cups, vases, candle holders, or works of art. After the course, you can choose a piece that will be lovingly processed (twisted) by us and glazed in your choice color of 5. This is already included in the course fee. Glazed pieces are suitable for contact with food, as well as for the dishwasher.
If you want to keep more pieces, we will be happy to complete them for you for an additional 10€ per piece. You can decide this in a relaxed way at the end of the course. We continue to process the pieces very carefully because we want to help you make them beautiful and unique.
After taking part in the introductory course, you can continue practicing independently in the open workshop (5 days a week), borrow a pottery wheel for home (from 60€/month), or sign up for a course lasting several days.
In order to be able to make full use of the open workshop, you should take part in a 3 or 4 day course to learn all the steps and find your way around the workshop.
The introductory course does NOT include the independent turning and glazing of the turned pieces and therefore only shows part of the process.
The courses are mostly led by owner Maike, supported by Miriam, Gerard and Lisa. We share the enthusiasm for working on the potter's wheel and the diverse possibilities of the material and look forward to sharing our knowledge with you.
Please note that the course is taught in German. Although we all speak English and other languages very well, we are only able to translate partially due to lack of time, but a lot is also achieved by watching. You can request group bookings in English, Spanish and Dutch.
We are a growing studio community in Weissensee, and there are currently still places for people who would like to be part of our beautiful workshop on a regular basis.
A personal atmosphere and respectful, respectful interaction are important to us.

Teamevents and groups
What you’ll do in the class
You can arrive first, take a look at the workshop and get familiar with the pottery wheels.
After the initial explanations, we practice centering the sound and complete the first vessel together.
You can then continue at your own pace and produce as many songs as you can and want. You decide how much help is required for this.
The course lasts 3 hours so that you have the best, relaxing experience possible and because we explain the individual steps in detail.
At the end of the course, you choose your favorite piece, which we will complete for you and pay for the additional number of pieces that we will lovingly finish and glaze for you (optional).
You can pick up your finished, burned and glazed works about 5 weeks after the course, and you will receive a notification when the time comes.
Who is the class suitable for?
The course is suitable for absolute beginners.
But there are also often participants who have already taken one or more courses, refresh their knowledge - or want someone else to explain the technology to them again.
Even if you think you have no talent for manual or artistic activities at all, the course can be a great experience.
STUDIO KAOLIN
Studio Kaolin (= white clay) is a charming ceramic studio with a focus on turning the potter's wheel.
There are regular courses here and the opportunity to use the open workshop 5 days a week and become part of our small community
It was a lot of fun! Thanks Victoria
