After studying Icelandic and spending countless stays and traveling in Iceland, I had an overdose of it at some point. So I moved to England, Mongolia and China to teach German for three years. Logical too, isn't it? wine? No, everything else: ales and Guinness, goat milk tea and vodka, dumplings and green tea.
But then came the decisive moment: Immediately after returning to Switzerland, I met my now ex-husband, a Viennese. Even back then, he raved about Vienna's vineyards.
Shortly after moving to Vienna, I was able to dive into the world of wine. Wherever the eye could see, whether on a train, on a bicycle or from a VW bus, I only saw vineyards and cellar lanes. After all, it was a cellar management course that definitely sparked the fire for me to work with wine. There I met a winemaker and was impressed how she prevailed in the domain that was still occupied by men. In the coming months, I enthusiastically helped her in the vineyard, although I liked the winter pruning the most because the treatment of the vine is so intensive there.
The desire to become a winemaker myself arose, but the reality check proved me wrong, because without a family background, it is almost impossible to gain a foothold. Offering female winemakers a platform in the form of a specialized wine shop seemed more useful and desirable to me. This was followed by a period of intensive professional work with wine.
The idea sprouted, but simmered under the ground for another two years, began to simmer and finally erupted in July 2020 like Eyjafjallajökull in 2010.
