Get to know team-OMUSUBI

Team-omusubi brings Japanese food culture to Berlin and creates a place where people can get to know, experience and share authentic Japanese food culture through a combination of background knowledge and practical preparation.

Our workshops are much more than classic cooking courses where you simply follow a recipe.

First, we will work together on the cultural backgrounds of Japanese cuisine. In doing so, we dive into Japanese aesthetics, traditions, values and the special relationship with nature. Then it's time to practice: We form OMUSUBI together, design colorful BENTO BOXES or enjoy a TEMAKI sushi board together.

In this way, we not only want to show how Japanese food is prepared, but also to convey why certain traditions came about and what stories, values and ideas about nature and community lie behind them.

What actually distinguishes a Japanese BENTO from an ordinary lunch box?

Why do the seasons play such an important role in Japanese food culture?

And what is the meaning of sitting an einem tisch and eating together in Japan — beyond simply getting full?

TEAM-omusubi was founded by Masaki Sakurai. Before moving to Berlin with his family in 2024, he ran the organic shop and café “BIOSK” in Japan for twelve years and worked intensively on organic agriculture, food, nutrition and environmental education.

After moving to Berlin, he worked at the Japanese restaurant Kuchi and, at the same time, began organizing his own workshops to pass on authentic Japanese food culture.

With Team-omusubi, we don't simply want to share recipes. Our goal is to create a community in which people can come together and discover and experience the essence of Japanese food culture and finally take it with them to their own dining tables in Germany.

Learn, prepare, try, discover, talk to each other — and sit at the table and enjoy together!
