Susanne and Rainer Michel live and work in Munich. They have been running the Kunstatelier Michel there since 2009. Her paintings can be seen regularly at exhibitions in Germany and abroad.

Susanne Michel, born 1978, studied German literature, art history, painting and drawing in Munich and Florence. Since 2007, she has been leading creative courses for children and adults. In the same year, she continued her education in Montessori education. She currently teaches at the Private Pestalozzi Realschule and heads the Department of Art there.

Her artistic aim is to make her paintings come alive from within. To do this, she works in mixed media with superimposed and interpenetrating layers of color and material, which enable the multi-layered structure of her paintings. This multi-dimensional technique of constructing images from back to front and from inside to outside creates the lively appearance of her paintings.

Rainer Michel, born in 1963, studied communication design in Trier and Augsburg. After completing his studies, he worked as an art director in various advertising agencies and continued his education in the areas of creative coaching and creative self-awareness. Since 1995, he has been teaching courses in the arts of calligraphy, painting and drawing. In addition to his activities at the Kunstatelier Michel, he is currently working at the Blocher School of Communication Design and Interior Design. He gives typography seminars there. Calligraphy workshops are held at the Schwanthal Art School under his direction. At the private Pestalozzi Realschule, he is responsible for the department of communication design.

In his own artistic work, he pursues the goal of combining writing, image and color into a lively interplay — letters become painterly, classical and modern calligraphy merge with lines, surfaces and illustrations using various techniques. This creates meaningful and unusual subjects on a wide variety of topics.
