The principles of Indian ink

Over the centuries artists have employed Chinese ink creatively in an astonishing variety of ways.
This course will familiarize you with various techniques and materials including:

• ink wash
• drawing in ink with reed
• and use a dry brush with ink

You will learn:

• Difference between Indian aka Chinese ink and calligraphy ink
• to sharpen a reed like a pro
• to sharpen a feather like a pro
• to draw in ink with a reed
• to draw in ink with a dry brush
• to draw in ink wash
• to create a wide range of atmospheres and effects from crisp, bold solid blacks to poetic painterly effects

You will produce several drawings in each technique. We will vary the subject from still life to life model.

You will learn not only how to use but also how to make some of the tools like sharpening a reed or a feather like a professional.
