About this class
Too many tabs open and too little color on your fingers? In our course, you can escape the digital screen and experiment with artistic screen printing, printing and working with real materials. In the end, you not only take home your own original prints, but also a basic understanding of screen printing, inspiration for further work and the experience of spending valuable time in creative exchange with others.
The 5-hour compact screen printing workshop focuses on practical work — relaxed, experimental and with lots of personal support. In a small group (maximum six people), you will learn the basics of screen printing and implement your own motif: from design to screen to printing on paper or fabric. Work is carried out in a professionally equipped screen printing workshop, accompanied by expert guidance (graduate graphic designer with a focus on screen printing and design, many years of teaching practice).
For your own projects, it is advisable to bring your design already prepared (digital or analog) so that there is enough time for printing. Alternatively, you can also work with motifs prepared by me. You will be guided step by step and supported in implementing your pressure.
All materials — paints, sieves, squeegee, paper and tools — are ready for you, you don't have to bring anything with you. Whether you're printing for the first time or already have experience, you can start right away and work at your own pace. At the end, you take your finished prints home — a handmade result and an insight into the lively, analog practice of screen printing.
What you’ll do in the class
The workshop starts with a short introduction to the basics of screen printing. You will learn about materials, colors, screens and tools and get an overview of the entire process.
Then we'll look at the motives. The course is designed for monochrome motifs so that there is enough time for printing. Printing is usually done in A3 format on paper or with a maximum print area of A4 on textile. You can bring your own designs prepared (digital or analog), or suitable templates are available as an alternative.
In the next step, the screen is coated and illuminated. After initial test prints, the color, squeegee and print settings are adjusted. This part offers space to try out and experiment.
In the practical main section, you can print your design in small series. You can work with print, ink and technology and receive personal support throughout. A second color is optional, depending on time and process.
Finally, the prints are dried and the material is cleaned together. You take your finished prints home and have a compact, practical insight into the screen printing process.
Who is the class suitable for?
- Anyone who has never printed before but wants to experience the basics of screen printing and create their own design.
- Anyone who likes to experiment, work with colors and materials and wants to take home a handmade result.
- Anyone who wants to get to know the technology in a compact way so that they can use it for their own projects.
- Anyone who wants to switch off from everyday screen life and work with their hands again.
- Anyone who has their own design prepared and wants to print it directly.
- Not suitable for:
- If you want to print an extensive, multi-color series (the course is too short for that).
- Anyone looking for professional training in screen printing (the course provides compact basics, not the complete depth of technology).
