Class description
Lombard decorative letters are large, rounded letters in Gothic style that were used as decorative elements. Based on the historical letters, we create decorative variants with scrolls, strokes or bows. Different techniques and materials are also used to create shapes with a modern look.
What is the process of our calligraphy course?
- At the beginning, I will introduce myself and give you an overview of the course and its goals.
- You will then learn something about the history of Lombard calligraphy and familiarise yourself with the basic techniques and materials.
- You will then be introduced to small exercises to improve the basic techniques and use of the tools. In doing so, you will get to know the font style of Lombard decorative letters.
- Finally, you can start creating your own projects using the techniques and styles you've learned.
Who is the online drawing course suitable for?
The online calligraphy workshop is aimed at anyone interested in the art of writing. Whether you're a beginner or advanced, anyone who wants to improve their writing skills and express their creativity is welcome.
The course is over two days:
- 1st day: 17:30 to 19:30
- 2nd day: 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:00

What to bring?
• DIN A3 drawing or sketchpad and a few sheets of watercolor paper;
• Penholder, with drawstring and drawing pen, small brush
• colored and/or watercolor pencils
• colored inks, watercolors or opaque paints (gouaches - if available);
• Ruler, pencil, scissors, paper towel or cloth, water glass and container for mixing the colors.
If available: balsa wood, automatic pen
