About this class
In this workshop, children aged 6 and over design their own insect hotel from natural materials. Under guidance, they learn how important wild bees and other insects are for our environment and get a playful insight into the exciting world of little helpers.
Together, we are building a small home for wild bees, ladybirds, etc., which the children can take home with them. The workshop promotes manual skills, an understanding of nature and creativity — and above all, is great fun!
What you’ll do in the class
At the beginning, the children get to know each other in a small group and receive a child-friendly introduction to the topic: Why are insect hotels important? Which animals move in there? And what do you have to pay attention to when building?
The children then design their own insect hotel out of wood — with drill holes, natural materials and lots of creativity. Finally, the wood is sealed with natural oil so that the hotel is also well protected outside.
Every child takes their insect hotel home — ready to hang in the garden or on the balcony. There is also a takeaway observation sheet that children can use to further discover life around their insect hotel in the coming days and weeks.
Who is the class suitable for?
For children over 6 years of age. No previous knowledge is required — the joy of doing things yourself, curiosity and a desire for nature are all that's needed.
