About this Tour
We start our walk through Hamburg's Neustadt in front of the Dammtor train station near the ramparts and take a trip to Hamburg's oldest green area.
There in the peaceful idyll of the big city, we explore the military past of this park and its use for Hamburg's rise to a metropolis on the Elbe.
Look at urban planning in the 18/19th century and talk about housing emergencies then and now.
Explore the consequences of these wrong decisions, admire the visionary urban planning of the post-war period and the results of the last Gängeviertel renovation.
We'll talk about what it took to be a hamburger and to be able to call yourself one.
Look at the bourgeoisie and their privileges, the arrogance of Hamburg politics.
What were the chances of advancement for rich and poor in 19th century Hamburg.
I'll tell you about two well-known Hamburgers whose life stories could not have been more contradictory.
Clear up Hamburg clichés, have a conversation with you about Hamburg originals and the story behind these “model citizens.”
Come with me through Neustadt,
to the small town within the big city with all its contrasts.
