About this class

In this weekend ceramics course, you will learn how to create impressive ceramic portraits and busts.

Discover the art of vivid expression and develop your artistic skills under professional guidance. We work with a bust as a model, discuss and practice facial anatomy. In doing so, we not only create a work of art, but also learn and strengthen the representation of faces for later ceramic projects.

You can let your work dry and burn in our studio.

What you’ll do in the class

Day 1: Basics of bust form and artist anatomy

  • Introduction to materials and tools
  • Construction of a basic structure, substructure
  • Construction of the bust as a dummy, all proportions are already laid out here, skull, field of vision, neck and body base
  • Understanding the artist's anatomy for realistic portraits, including drawing or using image examples

Day 2: Building a life-size bust after a model bust

  • Now it really starts
  • Practical exercises to build up the bust
  • Apply facial features, eyes, nose, mouth, surfaces
  • Tips and tricks for modeling facial features and expression

Day 3: Surface finish and final presentation

  • Fine-tuning details and surface structures
  • How is it with the ears
  • How do I style the hair
  • Fine-tuning and corrections
  • Discussion of techniques for completing and presenting the works

Who is the class suitable for?

This course is suitable for beginners and advanced users who want to expand their skills and understanding of depicting faces and busts.

Maximum number of participants: 6, for individual support and an intensive learning environment.

Details to remember

What to bring to the class

  • You'll need:
    • a water spray bottle
    • a solid fibreboard 50 x 40 cm, minimum thickness 16 mm
    • Impact wood or 40 cm squared timber
    • 2 hand towels or other wipes to keep moist and cover
