About this class
In this creative paper mache workshop, we create unique figures and objects from wire, newspaper and homemade papier-mache mass. With simple means and plenty of room for imagination, small works of art are created — animals, people, imaginative beings or even decorative objects such as vases and lamps. It all starts with an idea and grows step by step into a personal sculpture.
As a graduate designer, author and narrator from Hamburg, I love making stories visible with my hands. For me, building forms means discovering bodies, spaces and characters and giving them expression. It is precisely this joy that I would like to share with you. I will carefully guide you in finding your own design language — freely, courageously and playfully, regardless of previous knowledge.
What you’ll do in the class
This workshop comprises three appointments, each taking place on the same day of the week at the same time.
1st appointment
We start with a wire frame, which serves as the basic shape of your figure or object. With newspaper and paste, we build up volume and close the gaps until a stable base is created.
2nd appointment
We cook the papier-mâché mass together. You then model details, movement, and expression. Now your figure is visibly coming to life.
(drying time: approx. 1 week)
3rd appointment
In the last step, we refine shapes, smooth surfaces and prepare your sculpture for color design. In the end, you will have a piece of art in your hands that reflects your imagination.
Who is the class suitable for?
The workshop is ideal for anyone who wants to switch off while working creatively and wants to create imaginative sculptures with simple materials made of wire, paper and paste — without any previous knowledge. Whether you want to take your first steps in figure making or are already creatively experienced: Here you can try yourself freely and follow your own design language. Art thrives on courage and exchange — there is room for both here.
