About this class
In this 3-hour introductory workshop on the pottery wheel, you'll learn all the essential steps to shape your first pieces. This workshop is perfect if you're curious about trying the pottery wheel for the first time. It's a special experience that's a lot of fun — but it's often trickier at first than it looks!
We'll focus more on the experience than the outcome: expect wobbly bowls, joyful surprises and a space where perfection isn't the goal. The less pressure you bring, the more satisfying and mindful the process will be.
Whether you're looking for a creative reset, a moment of flow, or just want to try something new - this workshop is for you.
After the course:
Once you've completed the introductory class, you're welcome to:
Rent a Pottery Wheel for Home (starting at €60/month)
Sign up for a multi-day course
Join the open studio
To use the open studio fully and independently, we recommend taking a 3- or 4-day course, where you'll learn all the steps and become familiar with the studio setup.
Please note: the introductory course does not include independent trimming or glazing of your pieces — it's a first step in the process.
Who we are:
Most of our courses are led by Maike, the Studio Founder, with support from Clara, Miriam, and Gerard. We share a deep passion for working with clay and exploring its creative possibilities — and we love helping others discover this joyful process.
Don't worry if your English isn't perfect - our classes are beginner-friendly and you can follow along easily just by watching.
If you're booking as a group, we can offer courses in English, Spanish or Dutch.
About the studio:
We're a growing studio community based in Berlin-Weissensee, offering hands-on pottery workshops in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
In addition we offer Open Studio use for those who'd like to continue working independently.
We currently have space for new members who'd like to become part of our creative circle - whether you're a curious beginner or a returning enthusiast.
What you’ll do in the class
The course starts with a relaxed arrival: you'll get to explore the studio and get familiar with the pottery wheel. After a short introduction, we'll practice centering the clay and create your first piece together.
Afterwards, you'll have time to create more pieces - as many as the process allows, at your own rhythm. You decide how much assistance you'd like to receive.
It's less about quantity and more about getting a feel for the clay.
By the end, you'll likely have shaped around 3 small pieces — such as bowls, cups, small vases, candle holders, or artistic creations. These are usually modest in size, especially if you're working on the wheel for the first time.
After the course, you can choose one piece to be carefully finished by us (trimmed) and glazed in your favorite color from a selection of five. This is included in the course fee.
All glazed pieces are food and dishwasher-safe.
If you'd like to keep more than one piece, we're happy to finish and glaze them for you for €10 per additional piece. You can decide this completely relaxed at the end of the class.
We put a lot of care into the finishing process — we want to help your pieces turn out beautiful and unique.
Your finished, twice-fired and glazed ceramics will be ready for pickup about five weeks after the course. You'll receive a notification when they're done.
Who is the class suitable for?
This course is designed for absolute beginners.
That said, we also often welcome participants who've taken one or more pottery classes before — to refresh their knowledge, revisit the basics, or simply learn the technique again from a different perspective.
Even if you think you have no talent for crafts or artistic activities at all, this course can still be a wonderful experience.
