About this class
Do you want to further develop your painting technique, or learn acrylic painting from scratch? Then this course is just the right thing for you: I will teach you basic acrylic techniques, tips on materials and general basic artistic knowledge. The traditional art genre of still life has been taught in academies for centuries in order to convey artistic principles such as composition, perspective, light and shadow, color theory and “learning to see”, i.e. the conscious perception of the subject. The still life is therefore the ideal introduction to painting and helps to develop painting techniques and one's own style. But it is more than just a technical exercise: By selecting and arranging the painted objects, as well as painterly stylistic devices, artists can specifically convey messages and allegories. When painting still lifes, you also learn to perceive the objects that surround you in a more conscious and nuanced way, thus developing an awareness of the beauty of everyday life.
What you’ll do in the class
The course takes place at the Atelierhaus Gruppe Elf Bochum e.V.
You'll learn how to paint a still life step by step:
- Selection and arrangement of objects
- sketching taking composition and perspective into account
- Structure of an acrylic painting and characteristics of the material
- Mixing colors - color theory
- See and paint light and shadow correctly
At the end of the course, you'll take home your own still life.

The course is suitable for beginners and advanced students in painting. No previous drawing or painting experience is required.
