Class description
What does caffeine-free coffee have to do with art? And why did the new development of a medieval artisan street in the 1920s cause a stir? And then there was the Germanic cult in the middle of Bremen... During this guided tour, you will explore the unique work of art “Böttcherstraße” in detail.
When craftsmen romped around the small street between today's market square and the Weser in the Middle Ages, no one had any idea that one of the strangest streets would be built there. After the Bremen-based coffee merchant Ludwig Roselius brought the world's first decaffeinated coffee onto the market in 1906, he became one of the richest men in Germany. With the profit he made with his coffee, he bought an entire street in the old town of Bremen and had the “Böttcherstraße” built there from 1922 to 1931 - a complete work of art made of brick. But what is the story behind the facades? What is it about the golden light bringer at the entrance to Böttcherstraße? What does the legendary Atlantis have to do with Böttcherstraße? And who was Paula anyway? Go on an exciting journey through Bremen's “secret main street” and find out.
