About this class
This session focuses on the tactile beauty of paper and the art of hand-stamping.
The class begins with a demonstration and cultural history of block printing from an experienced designer before you get started on your own unique pieces. You will learn how to apply traditional motifs to different paper weights and textures to create a professional, hand-pressed finish.
The outcome of the session is a complete, custom-made stationery kit. You will have the opportunity to create your own patterns and prints using various blocks. Indian Masala Chai and Indian snacks will be provided throughout so you can enjoy the full experience of Indian crafts.
What you’ll do in the class
Wood block printing is a technique where hand-carved wooden blocks are stamped onto paper to create repeat patterns. The workshop will be held in English at the home of the artist in Kastanienallee, Mitte. The exact address will be shared upon booking.
Welcome and Introduction (15 min)
Step into a private home studio in Mitte and settle in with a cup of freshly brewed masala chai. Learn about the rich history of block printing and the traditional artistry behind hand-carved wooden blocks.
Printing Basics and Guided Practice (45 min)
Work with hand-carved wooden blocks and richly pigmented inks, learning how to place patterns and apply ink correctly. Print on paper swatches while engaging in conversations and sharing design ideas with fellow guests.
Create Your Own Stationery Set (60 min)
Apply your new skills to create a complete, custom-designed stationery collection. Experiment with layering patterns and colours under expert guidance to produce your own unique set:
- A set of 6 cards with matching envelopes
- 2 A4-sized paper sheets for your own artwork
- 2 Bookmarks
