Dive into the world of coffee — at a barista course in Freiburg!

In just two hours, as a beginner, you will learn everything you need to prepare espresso, froth milk properly and create your first latte art motifs. You will work on professional portafilter machines, gain in-depth coffee knowledge and take away practical tips to take home with you.

For a special end, you can optionally book and enjoy coffee, cake and aperitif as an add-on.

What you’ll do in the class

1. Welcome & introduction (approx. 5-10 minutes)

  • Brief presentation of the trainer and the participants
  • Overview of course schedule
  • Objective: What does it mean to be a barista?


2. Compact coffee knowledge (approx. 10 minutes)

  • Brief introduction to coffee beans: Arabica vs. Robusta
  • Cultivation, Harvesting and Roasting — Basics
  • Influence of origin and roasting on taste


3. Espresso basics (approx. 15-20 minutes)

  • Setting up and operating the espresso machine
  • The “golden rule”: degree of grinding, quantity, tampering, extraction time
  • First practical exercise: preparing and tasting espresso


4. Milk & milk froth (approx. 15-20 minutes)

  • Differences between types of milk
  • Foaming with the steam plant: technology & temperature
  • Practice: frothing milk and small latte art basics (e.g. heart)


5. Classic coffee drinks (approx. 10-15 minutes)

  • Difference between espresso, cappuccino, latte macchiato, etc.
  • Preparation & serving rules
  • Quick practice: Make 1-2 drinks yourself


6. Questions & Conclusion (approx. 5-10 minutes)

  • Open question and answer session
  • Tips for home/further courses
  • Attendance certificate (optional)
