About this class

Raku is an old Japanese firing technique and probably the most exciting way to burn! The ceramics are removed from the oven while glowing and retreated in various ways. This creates the typical craquelure effects. In this course, I will show and tell you the secrets of this Japanese tradition and what is important. Not only are you privy to an age-old tradition, but you are also taking your own work of art home with you.

What you’ll do in the class

  • The course starts with a small theory unit
  • Here you have the opportunity to glaze two pieces that I have screwed
  • During the dry phase of approx. 1 hour, I will guide you through the gallery
  • You can then burn your glazed parts yourself in the Raku oven

Who is the class suitable for?

No previous experience required. For anyone who wants to be creative and get to know the old Japanese firing technology and tradition.

After 25 years in the field of classical music management, I found my way to ceramics late on. My chance encounter with Ton and Raku in particular was decisive for the change of direction. I realized very soon that I had found what I had been looking for here.
