About this class
Turning on the potter's wheel — creative workshop for groups (approx. 4 hours)
Experience the fascinating world of pottery and discover how unique ceramics are made from a simple piece of clay under your hands. Our four-hour workshop at the pottery wheel is the ideal experience for groups of friends, families, birthdays, hen parties or team events. You will spend a creative break together, focusing on slowing down, crafting and experiencing together.
After a warm welcome, we start with an introduction to working on the potter's wheel. You will learn the most important basics and learn how sound behaves, which steps are decisive and what is important when centering and shaping. No previous experience is required — the workshop is suitable for beginners as well as advanced learners who want to further develop their technique or simply work at the hub again.
Then the exciting part begins: You take a seat at your own pottery wheel and form your first vessel from a lump of clay. Turning the disc requires concentration, patience and a good feeling for the material. At the same time, the smooth movement of the rotating disc has an astonishingly calming effect. Many participants describe this moment as meditative. Everyday life fades into the background, the focus is entirely on the sound and movements of the hands.
With every work step, you develop a better feeling for the material. You can feel how your hands learn to gently guide the sound, apply pressure in a targeted manner and gradually create the desired shape. Each attempt brings new insights, and often the most beautiful pieces are achieved precisely when you get involved in the process and do not strive for perfection. That is what makes turning the potter's wheel such a special experience.
We will be there for you individually throughout the workshop. Whether centering, opening, raising the walls or shaping your vessel — you will receive personal support and practical tips that are tailored to your level of learning. In this way, beginners can learn the basics safely, while advanced users work specifically on their technique and try out new forms.
In between, there is time for a relaxing break. Enjoy a glass of regional sparkling wine together — either with or without alcohol — and exchange ideas about your first experiences at the hub. In a relaxed atmosphere, there are interesting conversations, joint laughs and often new inspiration for the next pieces of work.
Turning off is another important part of the workshop. As soon as the clay has reached the right firmness, you will learn how to remove excess material and work out the floor cleanly. This process gives your vessels their elegant shape and ensures a harmonious finish. Here, too, we will guide you step by step and show you how to use the various tools safely.
At the end of the workshop, you not only learned new craft skills, but also experienced how beneficial creative work can be. Your finished pieces are then dried, fired and glazed so that you can pick them up after completion as a long-lasting reminder of a special day.
Our workshop combines creative craft, relaxation and community to create an experience that will be remembered for a long time. Regardless of whether you are sitting at a potter's wheel for the first time or already have experience — you will be guided step by step, discover the joy of working with clay and, in addition to your self-made ceramic pieces, you will also feel good about having created something of your own with your own hands.
