How does this activity work?
On the night of August 12 to 13, 1961, the GDR completely sealed off the border with West Berlin. For 28 long years, Berlin was a divided city — families, friends and acquaintances were torn apart overnight.
Your guide will explain how the border strip was constructed. It was seemingly impossible to escape. Many people lost their lives when trying to escape to freedom, including children in the border strip. You will learn how reckless and inhumane the GDR acted when it came to so-called border violations.
Let's take a closer look at the wall. Where did the border run anyway? Why were you still on the territory of the GDR after jumping off the wall? We'll tell you.
From the viewing platform, he enjoys an overview of the border strip. On this tour, you will find out why you also have to take unusual paths to purchase a border tower for the memorial.
But there were also creative escape attempts that ended happily — true stories that will impress you.
Experience what perfidious means the Stasi used to bring refugees back and what tragic consequences this had. The tour ends after two hours with the historic fall of the Wall on November 9, 1989.
Who should definitely take part?
This tour is ideal for you if you don't just want to hear history, but to experience it. Whether you're a Berliner or a visitor — you'll dive into the moving past of the divided city.
