Tufting Workshop Marl - Create your own rug

Who we are.

We are Jessica and Nils — and we have fallen for tufting fever, like so many about the fluffy carpet videos on TikTok and Instagram. What began as a private hobby project quickly became a passion: the fascination of seeing a real, robust work of art created from colorful threads and a tufting gun. Fadenzoo was created from this spark — our tufting studio in Marl, in the middle of the Ruhr region.

Our mission is simple: We want everyone — without any previous knowledge — to go home with a finished rug that they are really proud of. Not a half-finished craft project, not “it still needs to dry at home”, but a truly unique piece that still looks like the first day even after months of use. That is why we work exclusively with small groups and personally supervise every step — from the choice of motif to the technology to the final cut with the clipper.

Our location

Our studio is located in Marl-Brassert — centrally located in the Ruhr area and easily accessible via the A43 and A52 from Recklinghausen, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Bochum, Dortmund and Münsterland. There is free parking right outside the door.

A cozy, creative workshop atmosphere with professional equipment awaits you in the studio: Each participant works on their own tufting frame with a professional AK-V tufting gun. Your desired motif is precisely projected onto the frame using a projector — this also enables detailed designs, not just simple shapes. There are over 90 thread colors to choose from on large cones, plus the complete finishing equipment (gluing, backing, trimming and scissors). Drinks and snacks are available. The room is air conditioned so that we can work comfortably all year round.

We offer space for up to 4 people per workshop — deliberately kept small so that there is enough time for individual support.

Classes and events

In our tufting workshop, you will design your own rug (approx. 50 × 50 cm) in about 5 hours — from the idea to the finished unique piece, which you will immediately take with you.

That makes our courses special:

• Maximum 4 participants — you will receive continuous personal support instead of being lost in a large group.
• Beamer projection of your desired subject — this also makes more detailed designs possible that would not be possible in many other workshops.
• Design check in advance: We will look at your desired design together before the workshop so that it is guaranteed to work and you are not disappointed in the end.
• Over 90 yarn colors and high-quality wool specially developed for tufting.
• Everything included: materials, professional equipment, instructions, drinks and snacks.
• The finished result: Your rug is completely finished in the workshop — including backing, trimming and care instructions.

You don't need any previous experience. To warm up, test the tufting gun on a training frame before moving on to your own subject.

Private events

Yes — and our format is perfect for that! With us, you can book the studio exclusively for yourself as a group (3-4 people), with an individual preferred date.

What makes private events unique for us: Tufting is an activity in which everyone really takes home a presentable result — no competition, no pressure to perform, but creative work together with plenty of space for conversation and fun.

Individual group appointments are available flexibly on request.
