We only know medieval cooking recipes from 14th century manuscripts. These were mostly written down at aristocratic courts or in monasteries and bear witness to a different image of medieval cuisine than is commonly available: selected ingredients, sophisticated methods of preparation and unusually spicy dishes are not uncommon.
