Painting class: The Still Life in Oil Paint

WHAT IS THE STILL LIFE IN OIL SHORT COURSE ?

The main premise of this intensive full weekend course in oil painting is the technical and conceptual development of the Still life.

If you ever had a question, “Can it be a still-life? How do I move forward on this painting?”, this is the class that will help you. We will cover exactly how to progress from start to finish. Following an organized and clear procedure is an essential part of painting. The objective of the course is to learn a logical, step-by-step process to still-life. Topics covered include Composition, Objects Construction, Perspective, Light and Colour Theory, and materials for painting. Students will work from life set up, we will arrange together a still-life from different objects, or personal objects selected by the student. With a short introduction on the study of historic and contemporary painting methodologies with emphasis on exploration of some masterpieces of Chardin, Henri Matisse, etc.

TUTOR:

Emily Morey is a London based artist, who graduated from Brighton with a First Class Honours in Fine Art Painting and received the Nagoya university award for 'The Highly Commended: Outstanding artistic achievement at Brighton University Degree show'. Emily's work involves story telling, conjoining elements from observation and the imagination. Through the interaction between conscious thought and the subconscious, stories are told and memories and dreams are explored. Emily exhibits regularly in Berlin, London and West Sussex, including recently at The Hyatt Regency, with the Saatchi Gallery, London, and in group and solo exhibitions at The Project Gallery in West Sussex. She also frequently partakes in residencies, previously in New York and Berlin, and recently in Italy, as well as during her BA when she was granted a student exchange programme to study at Seoul National University, South Korea.

This weekend short course with Natasha Kuchko will be taught in our beautiful Neukölln attic studio in the heart of the Neukölln art district, far from the bustle of the street.
