What to expect from the Black Feminism Tour in Berlin?
Take a guided tour that highlights the neighborhood's connections to significant feminist figures of the 20th century, particularly for BiPOC women. We'll meet in Kleist Park, where you'll discuss the botanical gardens' historical connections to the 16th century slave trade and the overlap with colonialism in the so-called Golden Age of America and Europe. Embark on a journey of discovery of revolutionary figures like May Ayim and Audre Lorde, whose contributions to feminist movements still resonate. Create a space where the voices and experiences of BiPOC women are not suppressed but rather proclaimed with pride, paving the way for a more inclusive future in the context of leadership. Explore topics such as intersectionality and religion in the German-American church by looking at religion historically as a tool of oppression, but also discussing the church as a place of healing and Black joy for the Black community. Explore the impact of American influence during the occupation of Berlin by Western nations and see how marginalized communities found self-confidence and resilience inspired by the works of Audre Lorde. Engage with the poetry of Audre Lorde as you visit the graves of notables such as Ika Hügel-Marshall and May Ayim and explore their Afro-German identity. End your journey at Großgörschenstrasse, where you reflect on the impact of racism on mental health and the emergence of Großgörschenstrasse as a refuge for marginalized communities, highlighting the critical importance of community.
